Steam Momos Recipe (Tibetan Dumplings)
Hey, fellow foodies! Today, I'm excited to share a traditional Tibetan recipe that's a staple in many Himalayan households - Steam Momos! These delicious dumplings are a favourite among veggie lovers and meat-eaters alike. So, let's dive into the recipe and learn how to make these tasty treats.
What are Momos?
Momos are traditional Tibetan dumplings that are usually steamed or fried. They're a popular snack in Tibet, Nepal, and other parts of the Himalayan region. The filling typically consists of a mixture of ground meat and spices, but I'll be sharing a veggie version today.
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the filling:
- 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
- 1 cup finely chopped carrots
- 1 cup finely chopped scallions (green onions)
- 1/2 cup tofu, crumbled
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Make the dough: Mix flour, warm water, and salt. Knead for 10 minutes until smooth.
2. Prepare the filling: Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl.
3. Assemble the momos: Divide dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle. Place a tablespoon of filling in the center. Fold and press edges to seal.
4. Steam the momos: Place momos in a steamer basket. Steam for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
5. Serve: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips and Variations:
- Use a variety of vegetables in the filling.
- Add meat or cheese for a non-veggie option.
- Serve with a spicy chutney or soy sauce.
